Electrifying life, together
At Ontario Power Generation (OPG), we are proud of the many relationships we have built with Indigenous communities across the province. We remain committed to building and growing these long-term, mutually beneficial working relationships that help build communities and provide employment opportunities.
See how our relationships have laid the groundwork for a series of successful generation development partnerships.
Peter Sutherland SR Generating Station
We partnered with Coral Rapids Power, a wholly-owned company of the Taykwa Tagamou Nation, to build this 28 MW station. The $300 million project employed 220 workers at peak and was completed in 2017– safely, on budget, and ahead of schedule.
Lower Mattagami River Project
This hydroelectric redevelopment partnership with the Moose Cree First Nation delivers 490 MW of clean, renewable power. The $2.6 billion dollar project employed 670 Indigenous people and was completed in 2014 ahead of time and on budget.
Lac Seul Generating Station
The Lac Seul First Nation partnered with OPG to build this partnership facility. In service since 2009, the 12 MW station is also known by its Aboriginal name "Obishikokaang Waasiganikewigamig”, which means White Pine Narrows Generating Station.
Nanticoke Solar Project
In March 2019, we opened our first 44 MW solar generation development with the Six Nations Development Corporation, a community owned corporation of the Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
